Leith Knight
Passed away at her home in Moose Jaw on Thursday, June 27, 2013. Leith, at the age of 89, was predeceased by her beloved husband Cyril Knight (2004), and by her brother John Docherty (2007). Leith was born in Moose Jaw, SK to John and Jane Docherty on April 13, 1924. She grew up attending school in Moose Jaw and gained an intense interest, particularly in the history, of her community. She eventually became a respected authority and author of many publications about the history of Moose Jaw and area. In the early 1950’s she began working at City Hall, taking minutes for the Museum Committee. She was married to Cyril on July 16, 1954 and the two began a wonderful life together. In the 1960’s she worked to develop the archive system at the Public Library, while Cyril’s ever growing popularity as the most respected radio host in the province flourished. By 1969, Leith began writing a weekly column in the Times Herald. Along with her writing and love of history, Leith was an accomplished musician and served as an organist at most of the churches in Moose Jaw at one time or another, as the need arose. She will be fondly remembered by her numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and very special friends, and missed by the community that she loved and served faithfully throughout her life. Donations made in memory of Leith to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 - 3rd Ave N, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8 would be appreciated. A Memorial Tea will be held in Leith’s memory in the Redpath Lounge of Parkview Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 8, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by a Graveside Service at Rosedale Cemetery, with The Rev.
