COATES, H. VERNON - H. Vernon Coates, 89, of People's Park Tower and formerly of Pleasant St., Moncton, with family at his side, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday, July 4, 2013 following a brief illness. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Emily (Ward) Coates. Vernon was a retired CNR Budget Assistant with 41 years service. He was a member of Harrisville United Protestant Church, where he was a former Elder and former member of the Trustee Board. Vernon was a Veteran of WWII, having served with the Canadian Army and was a member of Moncton Legion Branch #6 and the CN Pensioners Association. Vernon will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara (Gesner) Coates; brother, Russell (Susan) of Riverview; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Vernon was predeceased by sisters, Edith and Irene; and one brother, Charles.

Moncton Legion Branch #6 memorial service on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm, followed immediately by the funeral service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Reception in the funeral home reception centre following the service. Interment, Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
