On July 3, 2013, Bernice passed away peacefully with her husband, children, family and friends by her side at the Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck, N.S.
Bernice was born in Sydney and originally resided in Eskasoni First Nations. She was the daughter of Mildred (Denny) and stepfather Ernest Johnson. Upon her marriage to 'Chisholm' she lived in Wagmatcook First Nations with her husband and children. She was a mother of five children, whom she loved so much. She was a member of Kateri Tekawita Family Parish, Wagmatcook, N.S. She loved to listen to drum music which her husband and sons played for her on many occasions. She had a great laugh that expressed her happiness, throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband, Francis Alexander 'Chisholm' Pierro; three sons, Jordan, Tash, Nevada, all living in Wagmatcook; two daughters, Taraneh, Halifax, Celine, Wagmatcook; eight brothers, Charles Johnson (Patti), Eskasoni, John (Darrin), Alfred, Dana, Frank (Meagan), Leo, Buck (Yvette) and Ross (Tara), all of Millbrook First Nations; six brothers-in-law, Charlie Richard (Maily) Pierro, Robert Simon, Anthony (Francine) Pierro, Francis (Brenda) Pierro Jr., Hubert (Dana) Pierro and Herman (Christina) Pierro, all from Wagmatcook First Nations; six sisters, Newell (Terry), Theresa, both in Eskasoni, Anita (Kevin Gills), North Sydney, Mary (Gabriel), Noreen (Gerald), Corinna Milliea (Randy), all in Millbrook First Nations; six sisters-in-law, Alena Usher, South Bar, Christine Pierro, Yvonne Pierro, Vera (John) Pierro, Audrey Pierro, all from Wagmatcook First Nations and Jessie Christmas, Membertou First Nations. Her godmother, Marge Sanipass. Her father and mother in-law, Francis (Babe) and Anna K. Pierro.
She was predeceased by her father, Alfred Sylliboy; material grandparents, Noel and Bridget Denny, paternal grandparents, Edward Paul & Margaret Morris; in-laws, Victor and Louise Pierro; her sisters-in-law, Rubina Gould and Theresa Pierro, and brother-in-law, Michael Pierro; godfather, Roland Denny. The body is resting at 55 Fishery Rd., Wagmatcook, starting Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 4 p.m. The funeral will be held at Kateri Tekawita Family Parish, Wagmatcook, Monday, July 8th with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial to follow at Queen of the World Cemetery.
A great full thank you to all the staff at Alderwood Rest Home, where she was loved by all in the two years she was there, the whole staff treated her so well and her special visitors Melanie and Jennesay. The family is so thankful for the care from her stay there.
