SCHAUB, CHARLOTTE LOGAN - Charlotte Logan Schaub of Boca Raton passed away on September 3, 2012. She was 94 years of age. She was born on Grand Manan Island on May 25, 1918, to Ernest and Helen Logan; her parents, sister Marion Evans, and brother Judson Logan preceded her in death. She attended the North Head School through tenth grade, where she was the top student in her class, completed high school in Westfield, NJ, and then entered and graduated from junior college. In 1944, she married Berkley Schaub and became an American Citizen. His career with National Starch & Chemical Corporation led them to live in Toronto, Canada, Scarsdale, NY, and London, England. During his 36 years with the company they traveled extensively to Europe, Mexico, and the Far East. A favorite destination was France, due to her familiarity with that nation's history, art, customs, and her facility with the language. She also greatly enjoyed French food and wine. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Boca Raton, quickly becoming involved with the Florida Atlantic University Foundation. She greatly valued education, and at age 60 enrolled as a student at FAU, graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. One of her course requirements was Creative Writing, and as a student she wrote a series of stories, both fiction and non-fiction, about her years growing up on Grand Manan Island. These stories were subsequently published in her book, "Homecoming." Her love of literature led her to join the English-Speaking Union, where she became an active member of the organization's scholarship program. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Boca Raton Congregational Church, and an active participant in Kiwanis, Torch, and the Music Guild of Boca Raton. In 2005 her husband died after 61 years of marriage. She is survived by her two children, Jeanne Classé, of Birmingham, AL, and David Schaub, of Rockville, MD, and three grandchildren, Nick and Alex Schaub, and Christophe Classé.
