Sarah 'Sadie' Adeline (MacVicar) MacDonald, age 94, formerly of Sydney, N.S., passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Grandview Manor in Berwick, NS.
Born on April 29, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Bertha MacVicar. Sadie lived most of her life in Whitney Pier and moved to Orchard View Apartments in Berwick, then Grandview Manor. Sadie was a soldier in the Salvation Army in Sydney. She took great pride in her home. Many happy times were spent at her bungalow in Gabarus Lake. During the Second World War, she was employed at Sydney Steel as a crane operator.
Sadie will be greatly missed by her surviving son, Allan (Sandy) MacDonald, Ottawa, Ont.; grandson, Sean MacDonald, Ottawa, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou MacDonald and Ruby MacVicar, Sydney, N.S. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald A. MacDonald and brothers, Burpee (Margaret), Ian (Carrie), Stewart and Kenneth. In Berwick, Sadie spent her last years close to her beloved niece, Sandra McFadzen (Larry) and family.
In keeping with Sadie’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service held on Sunday, July 14th at the Salvation Army Sydney Community Church, 55 Inglis St., Sydney, at 2 p.m. After a short reception at the church, burial will take place following the service at the Zion Cemetery, Gabarus Lake.
Donations in memory of Sadie may be made to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Cancer Society.
