It is with broken hearts that we regret to announce the passing of our dear daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, aunt and friend, Ruby Marie Walsh on July 17, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care An Cala Unit, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Waterford on May 21, 1948, she was the daughter of Rita MacGibbon (MacNeil) and the late George MacGibbon.
Mom was employed at the Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford where she was a valued co-worker and endeared by the residents. Although illness forced her to discontinue working, she attended her retirement celebration in May.
Mom will be sadly missed by her mother, Rita; sons, Rodney (Gwen) and Sandy (Alison); sisters, Melinda Eldridge and Nancy (Leo) Quilty; brothers, Raymond and Ronnie; her precious granddaughters, Kierra and Abbey; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by her brother, David MacGibbon and brother-in-law, Joe Eldridge.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.
By Ruby’s request there will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on July 19, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Calvin United Church, Hudson Street, New Waterford, with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Graveside service to follow in the Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown. Following burial a luncheon will be held at the
former Saint Agnes Hall, Convent Street.
The family would like to acknowledge the many medical professionals for the wonderful care Mom received at home and at the New Waterford Consolidated, The Glace Bay General and the Cape Breton Regional Hospitals … thank you.
Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care An Cala Unit, The Terry Fox Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
