LAVERTY, John – 92, of Yarmouth, passed away July 22, 2013 in the Meadows Home for Special Care. Born December 22, 1920 in Glassgow, Scotland, he was a son of the late Henry and Mary (McCormack) Laverty. He was a truck driver, security control with Canadian Tire. He served with the Royal Air Force in Word War Two. He served in Egypt, Africa, Greece and Iraq. He is survived by his daughters, Anne LeBlanc, Melbourne; Mary Laverty, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Joan Mulgrew, Grimsby, Ontario; sister, Rita Moffat, Scotland; grandchildren, Paul, Melanie, Neil, Mary Anne, Mark and Richard; great grandchildren, Christine, Tristan, Justice, Lailah, Paxton, Alyssa and Courtney. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne (Doolan); brother, Henry; sister, Mary. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. By request there was no visitation. A funeral mass was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 25 from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Melbourne, Father John MacPherson officiated. An interment was held in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations in John’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Cemetery.
