Peacefully with his family by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, July 21, 2013, Richard “Dick” Charles Howie passed away at the age of 78.
Beloved husband of Phyllis D. Howie. Loving father of Nancy Bruce (Brad LaPointe), Mary (Doug) Brown, Kraig (Jill) Howie, and Wayne (Christine) Howie. Cherished grandfather of Jason, Melissa, Josh, Kerri, Michael, Kayleigh, Conor, Zoë, and Joryn, and of great-grandchildren, Maxton, Brody, Emersyn, Riley and Diem. Dear brother of John, Mary D., Marv, Ricky, Ron, Donna and Brenda. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, Alec and Mary Howie; sister, Betty; brother, Henry and son-in-law, Gord Bruce.
Dick retired from Dow Chemical after 30 years of service. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife of 57 years, Phyllis and their family. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank the Oncology Department at Bluewater Health as well as the doctors and staff at Palliative Care and St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A private graveside service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
