John Ayer
1946-2013
SACKVILLE, N.B.- It is with sadness, that the family of John Campbell Ayer, announce his passing on Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, with his loving family by his side. John was 67 years of age.
Born on March 20, 1946 in Middle Sackville, N.B., he was the son of the late Arthur (Nip) and Annie (Snowdon) Ayer.
John was retired after 30 years service as a Steward in the Armed Forces, having served on bases all over Canada. In recent years, John had been doing a great deal of work for Military charities. He made pins and sent them all over Canada to the rally’s and even as far as to Afghanistan. He was always first in line if someone needed something and was always thinking of other people. John enjoyed mushroom picking on the marsh and fishing, but most of all was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Shelagh (Jewers) Ayer; children, Tammy Ayer Imhoff, Thomas (Tammy) Ayer and Tina Ayer (Steven McCormick); his grandchildren, Erin, Justin, Kelsey, Tianna, Tori and Thomas, as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Ayer in 2006.
Arrangements were entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (364-8188). Visitation took place on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #26, Sackville, held a service on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The funeral service took place at the funeral home on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Henry Grift officiating.
Burial took place at the Four Corners Cemetery. Following the burial, family and friends were invited to a reception at the Legion in Sackville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Military Charity of one’s choice.
