STEVENSON- Edward Winston “Church” Stevenson age 72 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 1, 2013. He was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on October 31, 1940. Winston received his Grade 8 education in Shaunavon and then began farming with his brothers. In 1961 he also began farming some land of his own. He helped Houston’s with the slaughterhouse which led to the founding of Stevenson Brothers Abattoir which he started with his brother Morris in 1968. He married Lilia Escabillas on September 2, 2000 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. He was an active member of The Idlehour Riding Club in which he served as president. He also competed in pony chariot and chuck wagon racing. He was involved in the Shaunavon Horse Show for many years and was currently serving as president. He was also a member of the Gunn Grazing Coop and to this day was very involved in raising cattle. He was predeceased by his father Andrew on May 3, 1959, mother Margaret on May 9, 2000, brothers Bob in 1949, Bob in 1988, Jim in 1991, Albert in 2001, Bill in 2007, and Tom in 2009. Winston is survived by his wife Lilia, his son Grant, four brothers Ray of Shaunavon, Morris (Shirley) of Shaunavon, Gordon (Della) of Estevan, Saskatchewan, and George (Anne) of Shaunavon, three sisters Agnes Havervold of Climax, Doris (Leon) Newmeyer of Saskatoon, and Linda (John) Haakenson of Okotoks, Alberta, three sisters-in-law Grace Stevenson, Leila Stevenson, and Kay Stevenson all of Shaunavon, his mother-in-law and father-in-law in the Philippines as well as four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law on Lilia’s side of the family, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services were held from Christ the King R.C. Church in Shaunavon on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Father John Mock officiating. The eulogy was presented by Gordon Stevenson. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Shaunavon. Prayer services were held from Christ the King R.C. Church on August 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Garth Simpson, Vince Stevenson, Ken Cadieux, Heinz Werner, Ralph Oberle and Kim Horn.
