CONNOR ALEXANDER RICHEY

CONNOR ALEXANDER RICHEY

August 14, 1992 - August 11, 2013
With shock and overwhelming sadness, on Sunday, August 11, our beloved Connor left us after succumbing to injuries sustained from a fall three days short of his 21st birthday. Connor graduated from Roberts Creek Elementary and Elphinstone Secondary in Gibsons. He was about to embark on the next part of his journey by attending Ranger College in Texas on a golf scholarship.
Connor was a gifted athlete and throughout his life played many sports — soccer, wrestling, track and field, biking, triathlon, cross-country and his deep passion, golf. His bio on Twitter was “Canadian golfer — grinding hard to make a dream become a reality.” He was so proud of winning the Sechelt Amateur three weeks ago and last year’s Sunshine Coast Golf Course Amateur Championship. He played every sport with determination, competitiveness and certainly lots of swag.
Connor had an infectious smile and was liked by everyone he met. Whether it was while teaching the junior golf clinics, behind the desk at the golf course, playing on his various teams or hanging out with his friends, his outgoing personality always came through.
Connor had an incredible bond with his twin, Stuart. They were fiercely close — brothers, teammates, competitors — and deeply loyal to each other. His sister, Kyla, was his eternal cheerleader — she supported him through all his endeavours and loved him deeply with all her heart. Connor loved his friends and spending time with their families. He always had time for his friends, and once you met Connor, you knew he was in your corner. He was so supported by his extended family on both the Richey and Livingston sides. A lot of amazing family times were had at the summer cabin at Gower. He had an extremely close bond with his grandmother, Nam, about whom he wrote an essay, “The Person Who Inspired Me the Most.”
Connor was an incredible teacher and mentor. He always had life lessons to impart, golf tips to give on the course or driving range, or pushing others in the gym to do that extra rep. He loved hard, played hard, worked hard. “Hard work beats talent when talent stops working hard.” This was a quote Connor lived by.
Connor was an extremely giving person and he will be continuing his giving with the donation of his organs. His heart, lungs, kidneys and liver were recovered and will live on in others.
Connor will be sorely missed by his extended family and friends, especially his loving girlfriend Keegan and best friend Jesse. There are huge holes in our hearts which will never be fixed, but we will keep his spirit alive within us. We hope the next part of his journey includes an amazing 18-hole golf course and a hole in one.
In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted at the Sunshine Coast Credit Union: Connor Richey Legacy Fund.
A celebration of Connor’s life will be held at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club in Roberts Creek, on Monday, August 19, at 4:00 pm.

A million times we’ve needed you, a million times we’ve cried.
If love alone could’ve saved you, you never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone.
Part of us went with you the day God took you home.
