Passed peacefully away on August 16, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, Randell Barnes, originally from Belleoram, Fortune Bay, aged 92 years. A seaman all his life, Randell went to sea at an early age, even spending his 15th birthday in a dory off the Grand Banks of NL, fishing. He fished for many years in Lunenburg and Halifax, Nova Scotia, and worked for 15 years on the Western Union cable repair ships – the Lord Kelvin and Cyrus Field - based out of Halifax. After returning to Newfoundland, he joined the Canadian Coast Guard working on the cable ship CCGS John Cabot. Before retiring, Randell worked for a short time with Marine Atlantic. Predeceased by his special granddaughter Christine; and sister, Amy (Mick – deceased). He is survived by his wife Edna of 69 years; sons: Albert (Mercedes), Sam (Frances), Ken (Bernice); 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters: Hannah (Gus, deceased), Beatrice (Doug, deceased), and Marjorie (Ed). Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., on Saturday, August 17, 2013, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and again on Sunday, August 18, 2013, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from Barrett’s Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Rd.
