It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of another special angel, Genevieve Marie Murphy 'Jenny,' 51, of Scotchtown, on Aug. 28, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of Jean (MacLellan) Murphy and the late John Cecil Murphy.
Jenny was a baseball player and coach to many children. She also played darts and was a lover of animals, especially a horse named Lady. Jenny also enjoyed listening to Johnny Reid.
Jenny is survived by her mother, Jean Murphy; sisters, Millie (David George), New Victoria, Cecilia Hinchey (Wayne White), Scotchtown, Joanne Murphy (Allan Fougere), Iqaluit, Nunavut, Kim Murphy (Jack Fraser), Diane Hicks (Arthur Hicks), both of New Waterford; brothers, Cecil Murphy (Karen Burns), Westmount, and Michael Murphy, New Waterford; 15 nieces and nephews; one great-niece and three great-nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jenny was predeceased by her father, John Cecil Murphy, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A special thanks to her friends, caretaker Bernadette Millier and the MacLeod family, Chris MacDonald and Charlene Villa. Also, a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and volunteers at the CCU and palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Visitation will take place today (Thursday, August 29) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held Friday, Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Donations in her memory may be made to the An Cala palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
