SPRINGHILL - Goldie Evelyn (Mooring) Hopkins, age 93, of Springhill, NS, went to be with her Lord while at peace at home on August 28, 2013.
Born in West Tatamagouche, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Carrie (Fisher) Mooring.
Educated in Springhill schools, she retired from Manager of Agnew Surpass Shoe Stores, Springhill and Amherst after 25 years of service.
She was passionate about her Lord, her family, her church (St. David’s Presbyterian) and her Lodge - Lady Minto Rebekah #23. She was an Elder in her church, taught Sunday School, led C.G.I.T., was Memorial Fund treasurer for 34 years and convened many church activities surrounding food. She was well known for her cooking when life tossed her lemons, she made pies, cookies, donuts and delighted in favourable comments concerning them.
She received the Degree of Chivalry from her lodge and was President of the Atlantic Provinces Rebekah Jurisdiction from 1988 to 1989.
She will hold a special place in the hearts of her daughter Geraldine Charters, Moncton, sons John (Carol), and George (Bev), both of Springhill; four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters Muriel Ross, Amherst, Joan MacKenzie, Springhill; sister-in-law Mary Hopkins, Springhill; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John “Jack” Sr., four brothers and three sisters.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Service, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill (902-597-2361) where visiting hours took place on Friday from 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral Service was held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 2 pm, Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial followed in Rodney Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Presbyterian Church, Oxford, the Odd Fellows and Rebekah’s home in Pictou, or the charity of your choice.
