
Henry "Eric" Davies
DAVIES, HENRY THOMAS "ERIC" - The death of Eric Davies formerly of Fredericton, NB occurred Sunday, August 25th, 2013, in Kentville, NS. Born on July 2nd, 1913 in Herefordshire, England, he was the son of the late Thomas Henry Davies and Laura Blanche (Williamson) Davies and husband to the late Constance Joy (Casey) Davies. Eric attended school in England and later was employed there in horticulture work. In 1936 he moved to Ottawa ON. Eric attended Kemptville Agricultural Collage, graduating with honours in 1938, and next moved on to Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph, ON. His attendance there was interrupted by service in the RCAF as a Link Trainer Instructor from 1941 – 1945. In May of 1945 he married Constance Joy Casey of Ottawa. In September of 1945 he returned to Ontario Agricultural Collage and graduated in May of 1946 with a BSA majoring in Horticulture. Following graduation, he and his wife moved to Fredericton. He commenced employment there with the Canada Agriculture Research Station in the National Potato Project from that time until his retirement in July of 1978. Eric was involved in the introduction of many well-known potato varieties. He was the author and co-author of seventeen research papers. Following his retirement, Eric was an active volunteer for CHIMO for 9 years. He was an avid reader, walker and gardener and a devoted family man. Also, he was very active with the Senior’s Shuffleboard Club for many years. Eric had been a member of St. Paul’s United Church for almost 50 years. He is survived by his daughter, Jill Davies (Wayne) of Wolfville, NS; his son, Geoffrey (Karin) of Victoria, BC; his four grandchildren, Andrea and Michael Bell and Carrie and Ian Davies as well as a number of cousins in England. Eric was predeceased by his wife Joy; his parents; his brother John and sister Olive.
Resting at McAdam’s Funeral Home, visitation will take place Saturday, September 28th, 2013 at 1:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service commencing at 2:00 pm in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation. www.mcadamsfh.com
