MICKELSON- Alta Irene Mickelson, age 91 years, passed away - August 24th, 2013, in Pineview Lodge, Nipawin, SK. Alta was born December 27th, 1921, in the Dama District north of Gull Lake (Hwy#1) to parents Kristian and Yelva Jensen. Youngest daughter of 8 children, she grew up in Codette district attending Elkhorn School receiving Grds. 1-8 and part Gr. 9. In 1939 she moved to the Hazlet- Roseway area where her mother and sisters, Dora and Esther lived with their families. There she worked as a hired girl for various families, met many new friends, all for whom she had fond memories. In 1944 she married Joseph A. Mickelson. On their farm, they raised four children. Busy with farm work, home making, children, Church, Ladies Aid, friends, neighbours and community activities, she squeezed in square dancing, Hazlet Ladies Ball, curling, acting, along with her love of the great Outdoors. Alta enjoyed gardening, preserving, needlework/sewing, a great reader and a great Cook, she will be remembered for her excellent Holiday and Celebration suppers and events she spread for all ages. Joe and Alta moved from the farm to Hazlet in 1977-1978 and then to Swift Current in 1986. Alta moved to Nipawin area in 1992, where she was active with home, garden, travel, friends, family and keeping up to date on the World news. She moved to Pineview Lodge July 12th, 2013, where she was settling happily. Thank you to her family, friends, and communities for the kindness, love and support given over her Life…. We will miss her… Predeceased by; Husband - Joseph Mickelson (1990); Sisters - Maggie (Arthur Dahl)/(George) Johnson; Dora (Robert) Dempsey; Esther (Alfred Thoreson)/(Ludvig) Dahl; Agnes (Henry) Batley; Brothers - Harald (Betty) Jensen; Elmo (‘Gwen’) Jensen; Floyde Jensen ; Parents - Kristian and Yelva Jensen. Survived by; Sons - Harold (Karen) Mickelson; Arthur (Margaret) Mickelson; Daughters - Karen (Ian) MacCallum; Joy Allan. [Grandchildren; Sean Mickelson; Kyla (Brian) Gossard; Hannah (Chris) Bexson; Jane (Brian) Snider; Paula Mickelson; Tina Brezinski (Regan Milowski); Shelley (Brad) Gilbey; Bryan (Marci Rif) MacCallum; Jackson Allan; Eight Great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces and nephews.: Interment Service : September 28th, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. - Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hazlet, SK….In her memory, donations may be made to ‘The Heart & Stroke Foundation’ or ‘Canadian Wildlife Federation‘.
