It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father Duncan, at home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013.
Born Aug. 16, 1927 in New Waterford, and a lifelong resident of town, he was a son of the late Duncan and Flora (Fraser) MacDonald.
Duncan started working in the coal mines at an early age, moving on to construction. He later drove taxi and then worked for the town of New Waterford until his retirement.
He was an avid Blue Jays fan and in his younger years, took great enjoyment with his beloved horses. Duncan had several harness racing horses and he loved training and racing them at the local tracks. Dad was also a very self-reliant handyman, never afraid to tackle any task around his home or vehicles.
He is survived by his sons, Duncan Jr. (Bernadette), Lingan, Bruce, Ontario, Arthur (Lynda), Halifax; daughters, Bernadette (Joey) MacNeil, Victoria Mines, Carol Ann (Michael), Cayman Islands, and Gwena, New Waterford; grandchildren, Joseph, Shayne, Nicole, Jennifer, Ashley, Bruce, Breagh, Payton and Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Ryland, Braxtyn and Caleigh; one sister, Sarah Corbett, British Columbia; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Duncan and Flora, he was prdeceased by the mother of his children, Mary, brothers, Angus, Danny and George, sisters Christy and Katie.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

The family will be forever greatful for the professional and compassionate care given to dad in his final days at home by his daughter, Bernie.
