GIN: Henry (Hank) Gin, age 79, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013. Henry, son of May & Wong Gin, was born on July 4, 1934, at Herbert, Saskatchewan. He attended Herbert School, and from a young age, he worked with his family at their Cafe. Henry's father, Wong Gin, established the Tuxedo Hotel and Cafe in Herbert in 1918. Wong passed away in 1960, at which time Henry and brother, Ken, took over operation of the Cafe. Henry was the hard-working guy at the front - he was the customers' congenial host, the uncle who gave candy and floats to his nephews and nieces. The Cafe seldom closed, usually only on holidays. On Christmas Day, though, Henry and Ken served Christmas dinners to families that otherwise wouldn't have had one. After the Cafe was sold in 1985, Henry began working at the Herbert Pharmacy for Chuck & Brenda Chow. Henry loved people and he loved the community of Herbert. A photographer and videographer, he enjoyed filming family and community events. Through the years, he received recognition for his contributions to the community. Henry was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed music, and he would bring in the Shriner's Band to play in the Herbert parades. He was a founding sponsor of The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, Swift Current. Henry was pre-deceased by his parents, Wong Gin & May Gin; his sister, Dollie Muir; sisters-in-law, Gayle Gin and Elaine Gin; and by his great-nephew, Braden Gin. He is survived by his sister, Joeline Shong; his brothers, Sueloge (Slug) Gin, King Gin, Ken Gin, and Dan (Tim) Thom; brothers-in-law, Sammy Shong and William Muir; 12 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and by13 great-great-nieces and nephews. Henry was a happy man. His was a life well-lived, and he was much loved.
