It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Marie Beehan (M.Ed.), beloved daughter of, and predeceased by, Anne Cavell Beehan (nee Ford) of Robinsons/St. John’s, NL and Ottawa, ON, and William Beehan of Cupids/St. John’s, NL. She will be greatly missed by her sisters: Maureen Penney, Lorraine Fletcher (John Fletcher) and Cathy Beehan (Mike Dempsey); her nephews: Cory Fletcher, Christopher and Karl Penney; step-nephews: Oliver and Nicholas Dempsey and her dear friends.
A more caring and loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend did not walk the earth. Throughout her life Karen faced the challenges of Type 1 Diabetes and the later onset of related illnesses with tremendous grace and spirit. A retired teacher at École secondaire catholique Garneau, she loved her profession and took great joy in her students. She considered, however, her greatest accomplishment to be the years of loving care at home that she gave to our mother until her passing. We seek comfort in knowing they are once again together.
The family would like to warmly thank the nurses, doctors and their assistants who have cared for Karen over the years. In particular, Dr. Phyllis Hierlihy is a special gift to the medical profession.
A funeral service will be held at Hope Cemetery Chapel, 4660 Bank Street, Ottawa on Friday, October 11 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the Rideau Tennis Club, 1 Donald Street, Ottawa at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
