The passing of Carl Erskine Gillis of Fredericton, NB, husband of Monica (MacPhail) Gillis occurred on Friday, October 18, 2013, at home. Born on March 29, 1949, in Summerside, PEI, he was the son of the late Henry "Erskine" and Thelma Edith (Broom) Gillis. Carl loved the outdoors, especially his annual fishing trip to the Miramichi, he also enjoyed reading, music, gardening and travel. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Mabel MacPhail; sister in law, Vivian MacPhail of Fredericton, NB, and brother-in-law, Vaughn MacPhail of Dartmouth, NS; nieces, nephew and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Verne Tarrant and Eleanor VanVugt. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at All Saints Anglican Church, Canada Street, Marysville, on Friday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. with Canon John Cathcart officiating.
