Marion Husum

HUSUM, Marion Louise
(nee Jorstad)
January 7, 1930 - October 22, 2013. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Marion Louise Husum on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the age of 83 years. Marion was predeceased by her husband Willis Stanley 'Stan' in 1990; her parents, Curtis Alvin and Olive Jane Jorstad; her brother, Carmen; her sister-in-law Vickie Jorstad and her brother-in-law Adolph Husum. She will be remembered by her children Garry (Vivian), Barry (Penny), and Cheryl (Barry Tessier); grandchildren Troy (Sirinee), Charmaine, Curtis (Cheryl), Crystal (Dana) Halvorsen, Candice (Jonathan Janik); great granddaughter Sophia. Marion is also survived by her three brothers, Orland (Marg), Al (Leona) and Gord (Shirley) and sister-in-law Hellen Husum; Vivian's children Trevor (Mackenzie) and Christopher, and Barry Tessier's children Lisa, Mandy (Randy Thorsteinson), and Dustin (Melanie); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and grand puppies who were very dear to her. She was born in Moose Jaw, SK and grew up on the Jorstad Dairy Farm just west of town. Her early schooling was in Moose Jaw, but in Grade 12 she enrolled in L.C.B.I (Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute) at Outlook Saskatchewan where she graduated. She met her husband Stan through common cousins who also attended the school. After marrying Stan in 1951, she worked as a stenographer at Western Grocers in Regina until her three children were born. For many years Marion, Stan, and other close relatives travelled to Hawaii for an annual vacation. Marion was a talented seamstress and handmade most of her clothes in her early adult life. She was a chartered and very active member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and handled the books for Sunday school. Marion was meticulous and patient with everything she did and was known for keeping a warm loving home with large family dinners around the holidays and special occasions.† Her family was her passion and joy.† She was a devoted mother, care-giver, and role model to all who knew her. Her positive attitude towards life is what helped her survive her battle with cancer as long as she did. As the matriarch of the Husum family, she loved her grandchildren dearly and followed their careers and life journeys diligently. A very special thank you goes to Auntie Marg and Uncle Orland for their support and devotion to the family during mom's final days. Marion loved you dearly. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at New Hope Lutheran Church, 370 McIntosh Street North, Regina, SK on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Sean Bell officiating. Donations in memory of Marion may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8. Family and friends are invited to sign the online obituary and tributes page at www.regina-memorial.ca. Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
