Our beautiful mother, Madeline, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2013 with her family by her side. Predeceased by husband Raoul (Roy) in 1981; her parents Alphonse and Sophie Spence; brothers Fred and Paul; sisters Marian, Vivian and Carol Ann; great-grandson Colby and son-in-law Floyd Goodon as well as several McGillis-in-laws. She is survived by her children Don, Mark (Sharon), Wayne (Eunice), Jennet, Karen (Jim) and Sandra; as well as thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Born in Alberta, Madeline and Roy moved to Saskatchewan in the early 60’s to raise their family. Mom was a proud Metis woman with the kindest heart and passed along her values to her family. Her amazing spirit and strong will was tested twice at a young age when she battled and overcame both tuberculosis and cancer. She had a great sense of humour and was always willing to help anyone in need. She was a modest person who believed in giving more than keeping for herself. She lived for family gatherings and passed down several of her best recipes. She loved old country music and a good joke, anything to pass along a smile. During her working years, Mom was a cook at Club 71 tending to the needs of those who woke up early or those who stayed up too late and also cooked at the Park Lodge. In her retirement, she was a prominent member of the Southern Plains Metis Local #160 for years acting as an elder and was a member of the Timothy Eatons Walking Club. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1064 Third Avenue NW on Monday November 4, 2013 at 11:00 am. Father Rick Krofchek will be the presiding celebrant. A Prayer Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Sunday November 3, 2013 at 7:00 pm.
