The death of Hilda Mae Brooks, 93, of Amherst and formerly of Springhill, NS, and Sackville, NB, occurred at the Gables Lodge on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Born in Midgic, NB, Hilda was a daughter of the late Hedley and Ida (Fillmore) Hicks.
She was an avid bowler and continued to enjoy the game until she was 90 years of age.
Hilda was deeply devoted to her entire family and will be sadly missed by her sons, Eric (Faye), of Dartmouth, David, of Amherst, and Victor (Bette), of Toronto; daughters, Brenda (Rick) Toupin, of Chignecto, Joan (Frank) Allen, of Chignecto and Faye Brooks, of Springhill; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; two brothers, Guptill and Cecil (Vivian) Hicks, also a daughter-in-law, Betty, of Dartmouth, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Hilda was predeceased by her husband John in 2005; a son, Alan in 2000; two sisters and two brothers.
Hilda's arrangements are under the care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral Service, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (902-597-2361). At the request of the family, there will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Pastor Paul Berry officiating.
