Sarah Ann MacCormick (Sarah Abe) passed peacefully from this life on Monday, November 18, 2013, at her home in Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born March 4, 1925, in Cambridge, Mass. to the late Dan Ewen and Kate (MacDonald) MacLeod, she was raised in Framboise and upon her marriage, came to live in Belfry.
In January 2011, Sarah moved to Seaview Manor and from there to Harbourstone in May 2012, where a new phase of her life began as she enjoyed new activities, made new friends, and was lovingly cared for. A member of Zion Wesley United Church and a former member of the U.C.W., she spent her life caring for her family and serving her church and community to the best of her ability. Sarah enjoyed knitting socks, mitts and stocking caps for whoever needed them. Making cookies (especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren), baking delicious homemade bread and cooking the best pot roast ever, gave her great satisfaction.
Besides her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Abe and brothers, Angus W. and Dan Alex.
She is survived by her daughter, Murrena (Douglas) Kennedy; son, Dan (Florence) MacCormick; grandchildren, Dawn (Stephen), Jennifer (Jon), Andrew (Isabelle) and Robert (Katie); great-grandchildren, Jake, Luke, Keegan, Sacha and Kali; sister, Martha (Wendell) Holmes; brothers, Donald (Joan) MacLeod and Walter (the late Florence) MacLeod; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Zion Wesley United Church, Gabarus Lake on Thursday 2 p.m., with Nancy Whitney-Latham, DLM officiating. Interment in Zion Cemetery, Gabarus Lake.
