Mary Mabel MacKillop, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Pt. Michaud, Richmond Co., she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Mary (Morrison) MacAskill.
Mabel was very proud of her Scottish Heritage.
Surviving are her sons, Ken (Margie) and Kyle and the mother of his children, Thelma MacKillop; sister, Lexena MacKillop; three grandchildren, Darryl MacKillop (Annette), Kylene MacKillop (Ian) and Kendra Kennedy (Vince); and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas. She was also Nanny Killop to her two step-grandchildren, Lisa (Danny) Wood and Rev. Russell Daye and three step-great-grandchildren, Liam, Sam and Will.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Kyle in 1985, sisters, Margaret and Dolena and her twin sister (in infancy), brothers, Donald and Johnny; and granddaughter, Darlene.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, Nov. 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Ferguson Lake, with Rev. Russell Daye officiating.
