EVERATT, Robert “Bob” James

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Bob (Robert James) Everatt on the morning of Sunday, November 10th, 2013. He is survived by his wife Anne, and daughters Judy (Mahoney) and Linda (Benson), and many relatives throughout Canada. Born in Prince Albert, Bob spent his early years in the vicinity. While working on a telephone crew in northern Saskatchewan, he met a young teacher at a country dance and told Anne then that he was going to marry her. But the war intervened and at the age of 18, Bob left to fight in Europe, serving with the Highland Light Infantry, 3rd division, 9th Brigade--one of the first divisions to cross the Rhine River into Germany—and participating in the effort to liberate Holland. During the war, Bob and Anne continued their correspondence and upon Bob’s return to Prince Albert, they were married. They moved to Banff in 1947 where Bob worked at the Banff Springs Hotel as a plumber before eventually becoming maintenance manager. Judy and Linda were born in Banff where Bob was a well-respected community member, known for his dependability and mischievous sense of humour. After retiring in the 1970s, Bob and Anne opted to return to Saskatchewan, first to a family farm near Smeaton, and then to Bob’s birthplace, Prince Albert. Throughout Bob’s life, whether curling in Banff, berry picking with friends, commiserating in the trenches, or spending time with family, he enriched many lives. He possessed a prodigious memory for jokes and had a singular talent for storytelling. In addition to his family, Bob leaves friends wherever he has been—his quick wit and generous nature endeared him to many. A gathering to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at a time yet to be determined. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Myriam Minier, Funeral Director.
