She was predeceased by her husband John Holland in 1971 and by her second husband Harold Hadwen in 1993, her father Henry Hoogeveen and mother Eelje Hoogeveen and step-mother Ann Hoogeveen, two brothers, five sisters and both her sisters-in-law, Alma Carlson and Isabella Jacklin. The deceased was the first child born to Henry Hoogeveen and Eelje Hoogeveen on their homestead north of Shackleton March 28, 1914. She attended Maple Dale School and obtained Grade VIII with honours. Upon her marriage she relocated to the Holland farm situated near the Hoogeveen homestead and became both a farmer's wife and homemaker and this remained her main interest and occupation for her entire life, as she never lost her interest in the farm. She was delighted when her grandson, Gregory Grodaes, took over the farming activities and received the 100 Year Certificate from the Government of Saskatchewan. In 1967 the Hollands became semi-retired and took up residence in Swift Current and John Holland died in 1971. Grace was married Harold Hadwen in 1975. The work ethic was important to Grace and she loved to work and have projects. She really never complained, however after losing her vision she would say there wasn't enough for her to do that she could do. Grace was active in her community and Church activities throughout her life. She loved to entertain and socialize with family and friends and was always eager to volunteer. She especially appreciated and loved her grandchildren and they have the most wonderful memories of Gramma. All four appreciate how Gramma taught them to drive "in the little blue truck." She was proved to be great Gramma and her great grandchildren were very important to her. The Hoogeveens were from the Netherlands and the entire family recalls that at each and every family gathering after the Table Grace she said in the Dutch language "Smackluk Eaton" - meaning to eat heartily. Upon retirement she was involved with Unit 12 of First United Church U.C.W. and Harold and Grace were active in Old Tyme dancing, and Square Dance groups. Grace also was a quilt maker and she made many baby quilts to give as gifts and on her 75th birthday gave a quilt to eight of her brothers and sisters. She travelled to the Netherlands together with her sister, Eelje Reid, and over the years became acquainted with family members from the Netherlands who came to Canada to live or visit. Following Harold's death, Grace relocated to condominium on Cypress Drive and later to The Bentley Retirement Community. She adapted to the changes throughout her lifetime and was able to make new friends at both the condominium and The Bentley. She retained complete mobility until July 1, 2013 when she fell and broke both her arm and hip. As result, the deceased had been resident to Swift Current Care Centre since September 7, 2013. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In her memory friends may make a donation to the charity of their choice. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
