It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving mother at Taigh Solas on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013.
Born in Scotland on April 22, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (McShane) Baxter.
In her early years, she immigrated to Canada with her family. In 1947 she married John T. Jobes and together they raised seven children.
She was a longtime member of St. Stephen parish in Florence, and recently, a member of Holy Family parish in Sydney Mines. She was also a member of the Bras d’Or and District Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club.
Left to mourn her loss are her four sons, Philip (Shirley), Jackie (Debbie), Gregory (Judy), and Ralph; three daughters, Catherine, Pauline and Patricia (Dave) Porter. She is also survived by sisters, Rose MacIntosh and Mary Cashin; a brother, William (Edith); 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband John T., grandson, John T., five brothers, Alexander, John, Robert, Charles and Richard, and one sister Anne Benoit.
Visitation for Agnes Jobes will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today, (Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church (formerly St. Pius X), with Fr. Thomas John officiating. The burial will be in St. Stephen Parish Cemetery, Florence.
