Gladys Margaret Powell, 93, of Griffin Street, Sydney, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Murdock and Bertha (MacAulay) MacAskill.
Gladys was a member of Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier. She was actively involved in the Whitney Pier Seniors Club as past president. Gladys enjoyed many years singing with the Vonnie MacEachern Singers as an original member.
Surviving are her sister, Erma MacLean, Sydney; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Powell, Miramichi, N.B.; step-granddaughters, Tisha and Laurie; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John; son, Barry, sisters, Bessie, Elsie, Christy and Annie, brothers, Albert, Frank, Buddy, Dan, Borden, Howard and Allan, and step-grandson, Noah Augustine.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, 2 p.m., with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palliative Care, An Cala Unit at the CBRH or a charity of choice.
