It is with great sadness we say goodbye to Wayne O'Connell of New Waterford. Wayne passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in the early morning of Nov. 27, 2013.
Wayne will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary; two proud sons, Wayne and Daniel; his special granddaughter, Abbey-Lynn and brother, Daniel.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Beatrice O'Connell.
Wayne worked for Devco for 32 years in both Lingan and Phalen mines. He was a hard worker who sacrificed his health to make sure his family were always taken care of. After retirement from Devco Wayne worked part-time as a security guard at Stream in Glace Bay.
Wayne loved spending time with family and friends having great conversation and a good laugh. Anyone who came to visit was made to feel at home and told to help yourself to anything he had. All close to him will miss his stories and laughter.
In honouring Wayne’s wishes, cremation will take place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the parish of Saint Leonard with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in Saint Leonard’s Parish Hall on Convent Street.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
The
Palliative Care Unit gave Wayne the most wonderful and passionate care during his final days can't be thanked enough.
