MacNevin, Delcie Elizabeth (nee Smith), 89, passed away in Ivany Place, Bedford on Wednesday 27 November 2013. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Delcie was a daughter of the late David and Annie Smith (Palmer) of Freeland, P.E.I. She was predeceased by her husband Tom, her brothers Henry, Irving, Elzie, Arnold, Walter and Arthur, her sisters Wanda, Velda and Enid and a brother Keith and sister Nita in infancy. She is lovingly remembered by daughters Ann (Don) McLeod, Peggy (Norm) Parrott, Wanda (Richard), Sandy (Rob) and son Ed. She was a special Nanny to Don (Wendy), Debbie (Greg), Denise (Nate), Heather (Matt), Crystal and Glen (Denesha), Janet, Karen (Steve), Jason (Tanya), Jennifer and Lindsay and their mother Marlene, Kyle and Jordan and their mother Susan. Great Nanny to Amy, Nick, Julia, Sarah, Rebecca, Anna, Katherine, Spencer, Hannah, Rowyn, Leah, Easton, Mason, Sophia and Kaiden. Special Aunt to Glenn and Lois as well as many other nieces and nephews. Survived by sisters-in-law Ruby Smith and Wanda Dickieson. Delcie started working in her father's lobster factory in P.E.I. at a very young age packing lobsters. In her early teens she worked as the cook for the entire factory. She worked at the Queens Hotel in Summerside. During the war years she worked at the Admiral Beatty Hotel in Saint John, N.B. Upon returning home, she met Tom, got married, and together raised a family of five children.
Delcie was a great cook and a wonderful baker. She knit many sweaters for her children and grandchildren, crocheted afghans for everyone and made baby quilts. When she retired after working seventeen years at CFB Downsview she took up rug hooking, spending hours making mats for everyone. Delcie devoted herself to looking after others, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her fellow residents of Fiddlers Cove. Special thanks to the caring staff of Fiddlers Cove, Ivany Place.
Visitation will be at Ferguson Tyne Valley Funeral Chapel,PEI on Friday 29 November from 7-9 p.m. with funeral to follow at the Bideford Conway United Church Saturday 30 November at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Bideford United Church Cemetery.
