December 22, 1930 – December 2, 2013

Don Smith passed away December 2nd in Prince Albert at the age of 82. He is survived by his children Sharon Vancise (Darryl), Jeff Smith (Judy) and David Smith (Suzanne) and six grandchildren, Brett, Emily, Alexandra, Griffin, Owen and Carolyn to whom he was an extremely proud father and grandfather. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Dutka (Johnny) of Regina. Don was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Yvonne in 2009. Don was born in Saskatoon to Bill and Olive Smith. He attended Haultain School and Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon before beginning a career in the automotive industry. Don had a lifelong passion for cars and during his early career the family lived in Rosetown, Kindersley, North Battleford, Prince Albert and back in Saskatoon while he was with Bowman Brothers Ltd. In 1968 Don and the family moved to Prince Albert for good and he started his own automotive supply store, Federal Distributors Ltd., which he ran for 20 years. After retiring he took great pleasure in driving a handicapped bus for a few years to keep busy. Don was an active member of the parish and the corporation of St. Alban’s Cathedral and the Anglican Diocese of Saskatchewan by whom he was recognized with the Order of Saskatchewan. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club and K-40’s, a Past president of Prince Albert Branch of The Navy League of Canada and a long time volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. Don was also active for years in the Automotive Industries Association of Canada and served on their National Board. He loved sports. He was an athlete as a young man and later in life he volunteered as a minor hockey coach on the West Hill and with the Saskatchewan games. He never missed a game that his children were in and followed his grandchildren with great enthusiasm. His family was his joy and we will miss him, his presence, his keen interest, his encouragement and his sense of humour. A Memorial Service for Don will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Alban’s Cathedral, 1410 Bishop MacLean Crescent, Prince Albert, SK with The Very Reverend Kenneth O. Davis officiating with a private interment to follow. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
