Marten Jorritsma passed away peacefully on November 28th, 2013 at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C. at the age of 81.

Marten will be sadly missed by his wife Frieda, of 29 Ω years, and step-children Pat (Cathy) Chan, Dennis Chin, both of Edmonton, AB., Alexx (Ron) Chesney of California, four step-grandchildren Amanda, Robyn, David and Ryan, and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers Peter (Jean) of Ontario, Pi and Miete (Bokje) of Holland, sisters Lies of Holland, Tineke of South Africa and many nieces and nephews.

Marten was predeceased by his brother Luitzen, his mother and father in Holland, and step-son Mike Chan.

Marten was born in the Netherlands on February 17th, 1931. At age 25, in 1958, he landed in Halifax (Pier 21) by ship. Following this, he began working with his older brother Peter in Ontario.

From Ontario, Marten moved to Saskatchewan where he began farming. Following this, Marten moved to Kamloops, B.C., where he began working on the farm at old Tranquille. Moving on from there, Marten took a job at CN, where he worked for 32 years, before retiring in 1995. Marten and Frieda loved camping and fishing, and had taken quite a liking to golf in the last 19 years.

A Memorial Service for Marten will take place on Saturday, December 7th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at St. George's Anglican Church with Reverend Isabel Healy-Morrow officiating.
