ROBERTS
Marion Grace
88, of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away Sunday December 1st at 6:30pm (7:00pm in Newfoundland). She died peacefully, surrounded by her daughters Debbie and Lori and granddaughters Kim and Beth. Marion has gone to join her loving husband, Harold, whom she was married to for 57 years. Marion was born and raised in St. John's Newfoundland. She graduated from Bishop Spencer College and was a proud Spencerian. After arriving in Halifax, Canada and becoming a landed immigrant she always kept Newfoundland in her heart, choosing to spend her winters with her family in St John's instead of going to Florida. Marion loved her family above all things. She was always ready with a helping hand, a bit of advice, or anything you needed from one of her attics. Marion was a wonderful, giving woman who believed deeply in serving her community. She worked faithfully at St. John's Anglican Church serving many turkey dinners. She served on many committees and was a member of the ACW. She was a founding member of the Ward 5 Friendship Club that is still providing a social afternoon tea for seniors in the Fairview area. She was a Girl Guide leader and served on the Scouts Canada Group Committee and was a member of the Baden Powell Guild. Marion and Harold spent many years square dancing and round dancing. They also participated in a volunteer program to dance with the blind. Marion was the daughter of Gertrude Maude (Mathieson) and Leonard George Marston Garland. She was predeceased by her brother Gordon Garland and daughters Barbara Roberts and Christina Piper. She will be remembered always and sadly missed by her son Thayne (Dianne) Roberts, her daughters Debbie (Ted) Monk, and Lori (Joey) MacPherson and her grandchildren Beth (Lisa), Susan (Dave), Kim (Richard), Steven (Michelle), Carina (Chris), Shyla (Jason), Melissa, Ashley (Mike), Dustin (Danielle), Kaylyn (Nick), Kyle, Sheldon and great grandchildren Michael, Autumn, Christina, Chelsea, Matthew, Cassondra, Mercedes, Lexis, Shelby, Sierra, Austin, Isaac, Caden, Cameryn, Taralynne, Keira, Casey and Mackenzie. She is also loved and remembered by her sister Ada (Tom) Jacobs, brother Andy (Roma) Garland and her many nieces and nephews, especially Gale and Stephanie. According to Marion's wishes there will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held on January 25th, 2014 at 2 pm at St John's Anglican Church, 787 Kearney Lake Rd., Bedford, NS B4B 1E2, officiated by Rev. Randy Townsend. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St John's Anglican Church or the Dartmouth General Hospital. Every time we see a Lady Bug it will bring a smile to our face and a warming in our hearts.
