Doreen Burnside died peacefully at Pioneer Lodge on Dec. 9, 2013. Born in Moose Jaw on Nov. 2, 1915, Doreen attended Alexandra School and Central Collegiate. She moved to Ontario with her family, attending Teacher’s College and teaching school in Ontario for 5 years. Married to Harry Burnside on July 8, 1941, Doreen returned to Saskatchewan and began married life on the farm at Secretan. They farmed until retiring to Moose Jaw in1973. Doreen lived in The Bentley, and Chez Nous before passing away this week at the age of 98. Doreen’s life was filled with a joy in music, volunteer work and a life committed to church work. She sang in her early years in the choir at St. John’s Anglican Church and served for several years as organist and Sunday School leader at Chaplin United Church. Later in life, Doreen found a welcoming church home at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moose Jaw. Doreen taught several young students to play piano in the Chaplin area and supported her 3 children in their musical pursuits with love and dedication. Left to mourn her are her daughter, Aloma (Clark) Lockert-Henderson, Moose Jaw; Wayne (Carin) Burnside, Red Deer AB and Brenda (Marv) Hounjet, Bellevue, Washington. She was also loved by 9 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren, numerous great, grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Doreen was predeceased by husband, Harry in 1996, son-in-law Robert Lockert in 1996 and sister and brother in law Evelyn (1997) and Douglas Hoskin. The Funeral Service will be held in Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday December 14, 2013 at 11:00AM. Rev. John Kreutzwieser will officiate. A time of visitation will take place on Friday December 13, 2013 from 7 – 9 pm at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery at a later date.
