Raymond Zaidan

DR. ANTHONY RAYMOND ZAIDAN
It is with great sadness the family of Dr. Anthony Raymond Zaidan announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Royal University Hospital. Ray is lovingly remembered by his wife Rita of 55 years and their children: Jacqueline Lomax (Harvey) of Swift Current; Vanessa Zaidan (Mark Schnell) of Moose Jaw; John Zaidan (Charlene) of Saskatoon; Richard Zaidan (Karen) of Fort Smith, North West Territories; Raymond Zaidan of Whitehorse, Yukon; Yvonne Lynch (Rob) of Saskatoon; and Kathleen Zaidan (Malcolm Adams) of Saskatoon. Known for his laughter, smile and great big heart, ‘Granda’ will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Leanne Lomax-Forden (Lyle Forden), Patricia Peters (Curtis), Anthony, and Kaley Lomax; Ryan and Nicole Schnell; Joel and Rudy Zaidan; Rory, Des, and Caitlin Lynch; Joshua, Lexi, and Noah Zaidan; and his great grandchildren: Lucas, Carter, Micah, Declan, and Liam. Ray was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone on November 9th, 1930 and was predeceased by his Lebanese parents, Abraham and Juliette Zaidan, and his four brothers, Edmond, Alfred, Eddie and Francis. Ray received a Medical Degree from the University College Dublin, Ireland; he then specialized in Obstetrics (Holles Street Hospital, Dublin) and Gynecology (Derby, England). In October 1969, the family immigrated to Prince Albert, SK, where Ray dedicated 26 years to his medical practice. He worked at the Holy Family Hospital and the Victoria Union Hospital and eventually in private practice. Throughout his career, Raymond delivered thousands of babies. In March 1997, at the Victoria Union Hospital, the Pre-Assessment Room of the Obstetrics Ward was dedicated in his honour. Following retirement in 1995, Ray and Rita moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. Ray’s family will always remember vacations to Waskesiu, Kelowna, Banff, and special trips to Ireland. Ray’s love of life was evident through his love for Rita, for his family, and for his friends. He will be dearly missed and will forever remain in our hearts. Special thanks to the doctors and staff involved in Ray’s care. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16 at St. Paul's Co-Cathedral (Spadina Cres. East and 22nd Street East). For those wishing, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
