Charlie grew up in the Suffield District of Gull Lake on a sheep and cattle ranch. He went to school at Suffield until grade 9. After that he started working off the farm. He worked at many places: he went to Ontario for one winter and worked on a gold mine in Madison, ON, and a bush camp in Bryden, ON. He worked for Charlie Appleyard (Farmer) and also at A & P Motors setting up machinery. In 1959 he met the love of his life, Sonja Stusrud, and in 1960 they married and started their family. Charlie worked for Frank McCulloch delivering heating fuel. They moved to the Horace Miller farm where he started to farm with his brother Ron and Gerald. In 1965 they moved to the old Adlem farm where they farmed and raised angus cattle. At the time of his passing he was ranching with his son Barry and grandson Brendan. Charlie was a coach of minor hockey, Athletic Association board member, PFRA pasture board member, Elk member, whist Club member and involved in many community brandings. Charlie loved sports. In his younger days he participated in ball, hockey, curling, track and acrobatics. As the kids came along he coached and watched them. He loved to watch hockey on TV and enjoyed reading western novels. Charlie took great interest in his livestock. He made many trips, along with his dog "Bailey" to check on them. Charlie will be remembered for his wisdom, gained from a lifetime of ranching, his love for his family and his independence. At last he is reunited with the love of his life and will be greatly missed. Donations may be made to the Gull Lake Rec Complex in Charlie's memory.
