It is with sadden hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Carter, 92, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Harbour Grace, N.L., Jean was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Mercer) Edwards.
She was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, where she taught Sunday school and confirmation classes, a member of the Altar and Knitting Guild and married couples. She was also a member of the Munroe Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Chesley; her children, James (Paula) Carter, Wolfville, Lillian Holland, North Sydney, Rosalind (Roland) Guy, North Sydney, and Chesley Jr. (Dale) Carter, Dartmouth; her 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Isabel Devin, N.L., and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Albert, sisters Lillian and Barbara, son-in-law Barry Holland and great-granddaughter Kimber.
Visitation for Jean will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Debbie Strickland officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
