Margaret Willena Darroch, 78, 552 Marsh Rd., Thorburn, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was the eldest daughter of the late Ross and Elizabeth (Campbell) MacDonald.
Willena was a resident of the Thorburn area all of her life where she was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Dorcas Rebekah Lodge and also a past member of the Thorburn Fire Auxiliary. She worked at various jobs throughout her many years but the one she enjoyed most was looking after her grandchildren when the need would arise.
Willena is survived by daughters, Nancy Fraser (Jimmie), Bloomfield, NB; Donna Robertson (David); Karen MacMillan (Ernie); and Scott (Janifer), all of Thorburn, 10 grandchildren: Melissa (Jon), Heather and Angela Fraser (Travis); Nicholas (Chelsea), Brandon (Ashley), Timothy and Sean Robertson; Matthew Darroch (Erica); Chris (Nicole) and Blair MacMillan, as well as two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Locklyn. She is also survived by five sisters: Iris (Francis) Guptill, Searsville, NB; Lydia MacCulloch, New Glasgow; Evelyn MacLaren, Linacy; Bette Anne (Gordon) Langille, New Glasgow; Leona (Blake) Stewart, Alma; and four brothers: Lionel (Marilyn), Greenhill; Irving (Sherry), California; Ross (Gail), Mahone Bay; and Brian (Margie) MacDonald, Pictou Landing; Marion Montgomery, New Glasgow, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Angus Sidney Darroch.
Her remains will rest at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, January 2nd. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3rd, from Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Private family burial in Thorburn Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Willena may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or the Thorburn Cemetery Association.
