Abe Penner, age 85, of Swift Current, SK, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Abe was born on June 29, 1928, at Cruickshank, SK to Peter & Justina Penner. Abe married Gertrude Dueck of Main Centre, SK on November 9, 1947 and they were married for 66 years. Abe is survived by his loving wife, Gertrude; their children: Verna (Francis) Collinson ~ Swift Current, SK, Elvira (Terry) Kenzie ~ Medicine Hat, AB, Tim (Wendy) Fehr ~ Regina, SK, Ray (Leone) Penner ~ Regina, SK, Ron (Kyra) Penner ~ Leduc, AB, Jenn (Garth) Bauer ~ Swift Current, SK, and Patti (Wayne) Hildebrandt ~ Blumenhof, SK;14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Nellie) Penner; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; 10 brothers and sisters; and by a daughter, Doris (Penner) Fehr in 1980.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2:00 pm from Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The pianist for the service was Sheila Braun. “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” were sung by the congregation. The eulogy was shared by Michelle Fuller and Karla Strauss with Joe Collinson reading the obituary. Special music was brought by Rebecca Penner singing, “The River” and by Pete & Leona Braun singing, “The Last Mile of the Way”. The ushers in the church were Myles Penner, Brian Penner and Allen Penner. Honorary Pallbearers were Michelle Fuller, Jenita Naylor, Karla Strauss, Tanya Johnson, Laura Steinke, Christy Thackeray, Raeanne Stenerson and Mike Collinson. The Interment Service was held at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Joe Collinson, Ryan Kenzie, Morgan Penner, Brad Penner, Stephen Penner and David Bauer.
