The death of Ruth Audrey Alward, 84, of Sackville and formerly of Wood Point, occurred peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday, January 2, 2014, after a brief illness. Born in Cumberland, Maine, Ruth was a daughter of the late Rev. Budd and Mabel (Saunders) Price.
Ruth had been a member of the Wood Point Baptist Church, but attended Main Street Baptist Church for the last few years. She was devoted to her church and had been the Ladies' Sunday School Teacher for a number of years. She was a talented musician who played piano and sang at the church.
At a young age, Ruth developed Polio. As a testament to her determination, she lived with it her entire life and was able to meet the challenges it presented her on a daily basis.
Ruth will be sadly missed by three sons, Dale of Calgary, Allan of Sackville and Robert (Evan) of Philadelphia; two sisters, Thelma Brewer, of Nortondale, NB and Marjorie MacFarlane of Fredericton; and a sister-in-law, Faye White of Moncton. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews including a very special niece, Judy White of Wood Point.
Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Alward in 1995; a brother, Paul Price; a sister, Esther Kierstead; and a sister-in-law, Marion Alward.
Arrangements were under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) from where family and friends were welcomed for a time of visitation on Saturday, January 4, 2014, from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service was held from the Main Street Baptist Church, Sackville, on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. Pastor Andrew Swanson officiated. Interment will be held in the spring in the Westcock Cemetery.
