Mary Lou (Archibald) McKinnon
McKinnon, Mary Lou (Archibald), RN. (1930-2014)
After a brief illness, it is with deep sadness that we announce
the passing of our mother Mary Lou in the early morning of
January 3, 2014. Mary Lou was the daughter of the late
Stanley and Erma Archibald (Salmon River). She married the
late Hugh C. McKinnon in 1955. They had 13 wonderful years
of marriage prior to Hughie's passing in June of 1968.
Having been widowed at the age of 38, Mary Lou gave
everything to the raising of her four sons. She took great pride
in their accomplishments. Mary Lou also relished and dearly
loved her five grandchildren. Surviving are sons Charles, Truro;
Cameron (Nancy), Bible Hill; James, Halifax ,
Roderick (Heather), Halifax; grandchildren Alexander, Bhreagh,
Matthew, William and Camryn; brothers-in-law,
Alex (Geraldine), Neil, Murray (Theresa); nephew Tom (Theresa)
Goldie and niece Pam Barber (John); cousin Shirley (Lavers)
Johnson, Charlottetown; and many nieces and nephews which
include the McKinnon's, the Martin's and the MacDougall's.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Joyce Archibald and
Kathleen (Archibald) Goldie.
Mary Lou was known for her great love and kindness for
people; which was evidenced by the many friends and
acquaintances she made during her lifetime. She was always
thoughtful, caring, compassionate and saw the best in people.
Her infectious laugh would light up a room and bring joy to all
those around her. Renowned for her beautiful singing voice, Mary Lou won
many accolades in the numerous music festivals she participated
during her formative years. Winning the R.M. MacGregor Cup and
having CKCL Radio record her voice at 17 years of age, was
a testament to her musical talent. Most importantly, Mary Lou
entertained many people at family gatherings with her emotional
renditions of "Summertime" and "Danny Boy".
Mary Lou was the kind of person who always left you with a
smile on your face and a song in your heart. She is now in
heaven with her beloved Hughie, where she is no doubt,
singing "Summertime". Thank you for all the wonderful
memories Mom ! Much love, your Boys.
Thank-you to Dr. Neil Bower for all of his care over the years.
