It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Hilary Brouwer of Nanaimo, B.C. on January 5, 2014 at the age of 71 years. Born in Dublin, Ireland, she moved to Canada when she was 21.

She is survived by her two children; Siobhain Brouwer of Victoria, B.C. and Crystal Brouwer of Nanaimo, B.C., sister Joan Dickson of Sutton, Ireland, as well as other family in Ireland and many good friends.

Hilary is predeceased by her husband Roelof Kars Brouwer, and her brother Dave Horton.

Hilary had a full life with her family, her work as a teacher, playing tennis, and in later years her church and 2 choirs. She also spent time volunteering at her church's thrift store. Last year she made a 3 week trip to her homeland of Ireland with her eldest daughter Siobhain, she also got to see much of England and Scotland.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church in Nanaimo, B.C. with Rev. Bert Ramsey officiating. Coffee, tea and goodies will be available after the service.

In Hilary's memory, in lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Andrew's United Church (Sustainability Fund) at 311 Fitzwilliam Street, Nanaimo, B.C. V9R 3A6, would be greatly appreciated.
