Donald ‘Donnie’ Smith

Lieu de naissance : Alberton, Ile du Prince-Édouard, Canada
Date de naissance : 4 avril 1937

Lieu de décès : Scarborough, Ontario
Date de décès : 10 janvier 2014

Surrounded by immediate and extended family, in the early morning of Thursday, January 10, 2014, Donald (Donnie) Wilfred Smith (age 76), joined his beloved mother, the late Bernice Smith in heaven, where she was waiting with open arms for him. Born in Alberton on April 4, 1937, Donnie was the beloved brother of Bonita (Bonnie) Doucette (nee Smith) and Gerard (Gerry) Doucette (originally of Tignish). Donnie lived the last 30 years (after his mom left us) with Bonnie, Gerry and their family, in Scarborough (Toronto), Ont., where he enjoyed a ‘second’ life after leaving P.E.I. He was also the beloved uncle of Wanetta Doucette-Goodman (Dan Botnick), Tracy Doucette (James Balla), Chris Doucette (Pam Doucette), Irene Egerszegi (nee Morrell), Murray Goodman (Lisa Goodman); and was a great-uncle to Kyle Doucette-Goodman (Kathleen Goodman), Brittany Prince and Matt Prince. Donnie will also and always will be remembered by his very large circle of friends and other family members (too numerous to list here), throughout the world. He touched countless lives and was truly an inspiration. He will be sadly missed by every soul he touched. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Pine Hills Visitation Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, Ont. (www.mountpleasantgroup.com) Pallbearers standing up for Donnie include Chris Doucette, Kyle Doucette-Goodman, Matt Prince, Murray Goodman, Roberto Conception and George Nsubuga. Honorary pallbearers not able to attend in person include: Allan Morrison, Susan Murphy and Tracy Doucette. As an expression of his memory, in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Humane Society of Durham, Ont. (www.humanedurham.com); he and his mom would really appreciate this gesture, as Donnie’s family and friends would likely understand. Those who knew and loved Don are also invited to visit the ‘In Celebration of Donnie Smith's Life’ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/733097536708331) to view and share stories and photos. If you have no access to Facebook, email your thoughts to Tracy23@telus.net (or call 250-495-8167). These memories will be consolidated into a book for family and friends.
