Mildred Estelle Fisher (MacDonald)
1933–2014
With great love and sadness, Estelle’s family announces that she died on January 14, 2014, at peace at last.
Estelle was born in Allisary, Prince Edward Island, the ninth of 10 children of John Angus (“Jack Pius”) and Jeanette MacDonald (Boyd). Her mother died when Estelle was just six and her older siblings played a big part in raising her in her large Catholic, farming family. She is predeceased by Pius, Helen, Boyd, Howard and Charles, and survived by Marion, Ronald (“Foncie”), Eileen, Leonard – a close and loving family.
Estelle married John B. Fisher in 1956, almost 20 years after they attended elementary school together in Mount Stewart, Prince Edward Island. Their own family flourished in Toronto: Deborah (Tony Corvinelli), Lynn (Bob Maunder) and John (Pamela Lawrie-Fisher); and Estelle’s beloved grandchildren, Philip Corvinelli, Duncan, MacDonald and Katie Maunder, and Lawren, Connor and Ethan Fisher.
Estelle was a devoted Catholic, a loyal Liberal, an indomitable spirit and the heart and soul of her family.
Estelle’s bond with P.E.I. was life-long; she will be laid to rest on the Island at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, January 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at Ogden Funeral Home (4164 Sheppard Ave. East, Toronto, ON). A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church (21 Leith Hill Rd, North York).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed towards the Canadian Liver Foundation or the charity of your choice.
