With heavy hearts the family of Melva Aikens, of Avonlea, sadly announce her passing on January 15, 2014 at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Alice Monkhouse, brother Edward, her beloved husband Edgar in 1999, an infant son in1938, daughter Merilee in 1966, and son-in-law Victor; along with numerous brothers, and sisters-in-law. Left to cherish her memory are her two sisters, Marjorie Johnson and Erma Harrison; sisters-in-law Iris Watson , Peggy Akins, and Mable Akins; her children: Terry (Fran) Aikens, Maureen (Donald) Storry, Kelly (Wanda) Aikens, and DeeDee Johnson; as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three precious great-great-granddaughters, and 6 step-great-great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Linda and all the staff at Coteau Range Manor in Avonlea for their loving and compassionate care of Mom for the last few years and especially in her last days.
