JONAH, WALTER L. - 1925 - 2014 - Walter L. Jonah, husband of Grace (Collier) of Dawson Settlement, NB, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Grangeville NB, he was the son of the late Joshua and Hazel (MacArthur) Jonah. He retired as a brakeman from the CNR where he worked for over 34 years. As a teenager, he ran the family farm in Grangeville, while his father and older brother were serving in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II. He loved life, his family and home and got great joy from telling stories, especially to his grandchildren. Always a people person, he loved talking to his many friends during visits to his home and in later years on the phone. He always loved horses and working in the woods and farming in Dawson Settlement in his retirement years. Walter was a member of Whitepine Baptist Church and Seniors Bible Study Group. He loved to read the Bible and his last evening before his passing was reading from Habakkuk Chapter 3. He is survived, and lovingly remembered, by his wife Grace, daughters Shirley Whitehouse (Carl), Katherine Cole (Dennis) Darlene Jones (Stephen) and sons Lee (Cynthia) and David (Joan), sisters Betty London and Louise Jones of Moncton and Phyllis Kelly of Pembroke, Ontario, grandchildren Matthew Whitehouse (Brittany), Tara Whitehouse (Steve Earle) Teaghan Kennedy (Darren) Luke Kennedy (Heidi), Zane Kennedy (Kalsey) Andrew Jones (Kenzie) and Graham Jones and great grandchild Sydney Kennedy. Predeceased by brother Arthur Jonah.
Visitation at Cobb's Funeral Home, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview (869-2007) on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Cobb’s Funeral Home Memorial Chapel at 3pm with Dr. Rev. Frank Trail officiating. Interment will be held at the Jonah Cemetery in Dawson Settlement at a later date. Donations made to Dawson Settlement Baptist Church, Whitepine Baptist Church or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
