It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Agnes “Aggie” Mary Eagles, 72 of Amherst and formerly of Lower Cove, NS on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the QE II Science Health Centre, Infirmary Site, Halifax, NS.
Born on March 23, 1941 in Lower Cove, NS, Aggie was a daughter of the late Clarence and Mary (White) Burbine.
In her younger years, Aggie worked for Northern Telecom in Amherst for eight years, retiring in 1983 due to health issues.
She enjoyed playing darts and was a member of the “Ladies Over 50” dart league of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 14, River Hebert and was First Vice of the RCL Br. 14. She was also a life member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Church and a member of the CWL, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary JVFD, Aggie loved knitting, crocheting,bingo, travelling the roads, Sunday morning breakfast at Margie’s with the gang, spending time with her good friends and her dog Jelly Bean.
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two sons, Wayne (Angeline), Mapleton and Michael (Bonnie), Joggins; sister in laws Isabel, Lorraine, Doris and Jackie Burbine and Millie (Claude) McAloney; five special grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, Aggie was predeceased by her husband, Sidney of 53 years; sister, Allie Cormier; brothers, Sidney, Douglas, Nealy and John Burbine.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906).
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Joggins, with Father Phil Thibodeau officiating. Reception will follow in the parish hall.
Aggie will be laid to rest beside her husband in the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Aggie’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
