John 'Johnny' Cremo Jr.
John Gaulbert Jr. 'Johnny' Cremo– 42, We’koqma’q First Nation, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late John Gaulbert Sr. and Mary Theresa (Sylliboy) Cremo. John was better known as “We’koqma’q’s Johnny”. He was a member of Blessed Kateri parish, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q, where he was an avid church goer. Surviving are brothers, John William 'Tiny' (Karen); Simon 'Chum'; William Benjamin 'Willie', all of We’koqma’q; Leonard (Elizabeth), Pictou Landing; Clifford 'Jake' (Valerie), Membertou; sisters, Nancy Ann and Yvonne (Rod) Bright, all of We’koqma’q; uncles, Grand Chief Ben (Marie) Sylliboy and Mattio Cremo; aunts, Maggit Poulette and Hazel Herney; godchild, Josie Bernard; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Joseph Dennis 'Sosep'; uncle, Lee Cremo; aunt, Mary Ellen Phillips; paternal grandparents, Simon and Annie Cremo; maternal grandparents, William B. and Nancy Sylliboy; his godparents, Richard and Emily Phillips.
Johnny will rest after 3 p.m. Sunday in the Multi Purpose Centre, 160 Reservation Rd., We’koqma’q First Nation. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from Blessed Kateri Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
