Peter Monaghan

Peter Monaghan

MONAGHAN, PETER - Peter Edward Monaghan, was born on January 24, 1925 in Sillery, Quebec, the son of Joseph and Bridget (McLaughlin) Monaghan. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he passed from this world on Sunday, January 26th, 2014, two days after his 89th birthday. A truly loved gentle man, he lived a full and vital life which he shared with his much adored, loving wife of 65 years, Leona Fay (Corcoran) Monaghan. His spirit lives on in their eight children, Michael (Kathy), Brenda (Danny), Margaret (Hans), Carol (Iain), John (Dorothy), Paul (Zita), Bruce (Michelle) and Patricia (Brian), along with 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Through his example, he passed on a legacy of love, loyalty, the importance of hard work and the strength of family. Although a humble man, as a Canadian Pacific Hotel & Resort Manager for 42 years, he was a host to many including Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Ministers and other heads of state. He was loved and respected by all those he worked with through his career. Through his interests in golf, skiing and curling, he taught his family the importance of living an active life and through his involvement in his church, the Rotary Club and his strong and loyal friendships, he taught his family to contribute to their communities in meaningful ways. Through his meticulous attention to detail, he showed his family how to do a task well and with pride, and through his love he showed us how special we each were and to value others and ourselves. Surrounded by his family until his last breath, Peter Monaghan understood the value of family and was a man of strength, integrity and wisdom. He was predeceased by many of his siblings, Gerald, James, John, Helen, Frank, Theresa and Margaret and is survived by his youngest brother, Robert.
A celebration of Peter Monaghan’s life will take place through a visitation on Tuesday, January 28th 6:00 to 8:00 pm and a service on Wednesday, January 29th at 11:00 am. Both will take place at the St. Andrews Catholic Church, 210 Parr Street, St. Andrews, NB. The internment will take place in the spring at the St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Horizon Health Network, Extra Mural Program, St. Stephen, NB or the St. Andrews Catholic Church Building Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street, St Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110) Online condolences to the family or memorial donations may be made at www.humphreysfh.com.
